Fax-to-the-Desktop

Fax-to-the-desktop involves receiving and sending faxes directly to and from your computer. The basic premise is that incoming faxes are received by a computer or phone switch that acts as a fax server. The faxes are then either routed electronically to the proper employee's computer or put into a central inbox where employees can download them.
For organizations that receive a lot of faxes, the cost savings comes from saving toner and paper. Manually routing paper faxes also takes time and they can get lost. Receiving faxes electronically, streamlines communications and eliminates lost documents.
Companies that send a lot of faxes can reduce the amount of time it takes to send those faxes. Since employees can fax electronic documents without having to first print them out, they can spend their time doing more productive things. Also the quality of the hard-copy on the receiving end will be much greater. PC faxing also allows you to send “blast-faxes”--sending the same fax to multiple recipients at the same time, all with customized cover pages.
Although this technology has been around for many years, it can be tricky to set up properly, and many small businesses have forgone this efficiency because they don't have staff with the proper technical skills to implement it.
