Voice over Internet Protocol

VoIP (pronounced alternately, voip, vee-oh-eye-pee, voice-over-eye-pee, or just voice-over) is the hot technology that is driving the convergence revolution. Simply put, it means transmitting telephone conversations through a data network rather than traditional phone lines.
VoIP can save a business money in a number of ways.
  1. Less wiring: wiring a building (especially an old building) with voice and data cables can be expensive. An IP-based phone system allows you to do away with the voice cabling and run everything over one set of lines. Also, existing network technology such as wireless networking or virtual private networks can be used to get phones to places that might be impossible with a traditional phone system.
  2. Less toll charges: Companies with remote workers can place IP phones at their employee's home or remote office. These phones act as extensions off the main office PBX and have all the features of the desk phones at the office. Remote employees can communicate with the rest of the company just as if they were in the same office. The best part is that the telephone traffic travels over the public Internet: This means that there are no toll charges for the company or the employee.
  3. Ease of implementation: With an IP phone system in your office, you can plug a phone station into any working data jack, and be up and running in seconds. Your extension, your speed-dials and all your feature key programming follows the phone, so moving offices is a breeze and you don't have to call in someone to rewire or reprogram the system.
The most common problem with VoIP is sound quality: Although the VoIP equipment itself is capable of high quality transmissions, echoing and other sound anomalies can occur because of congestion on the data network, bad cabling or faulty network equipment. Most telephone system vendors don't know how to diagnose or solve these problems, and many companies are afraid to implement VoIP because of the horror stories they have heard or been through.
Because we have both a full-fledged telecommunication division and IT division, we are able to implement VoIP solutions easily and effectively.
